TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Two Florida martial arts coaches jumped into action Monday after a man was caught trying to steal more than $30,000 worth of Pokémon cards from a game store, according to reports.

Newly released surveillance video shows the attempted theft at the Pro-Play Games store in the 1400 block of Southwest 107th Avenue in Miami.

The attempted robbery occurred when 33-year-old Jasiel Manfarrol walked into the store and asked to see a binder filled with Pokémon cards. Once the store’s owner placed the binder in front of Manfarrol, he allegedly grabbed it and took off, NBC affiliate WTVJ reported.

Pro-Play Games said the binder held about 3,000 cards, worth more than $30,000.

“Watching him walk away when I told him ‘drop the stuff,’ he like looked back and was laughing,” general manager AnaMilena Machado told WTVJ. “It was just like at that moment it felt like so helpless because it was like, we are just watching $30, $40,000 of our hard work just walk off.”

However, when the 33-year-old fled the store, he was met with the shop’s owner and two bystanders. According to WTVJ, police said Manfarrol took out a pair of pliers and made “several stabbing motions” at one of the men who was trying to stop him.

Manfarrol also stated, “I’m going to stab you,” in Spanish, an arrest report showed.

According to WTVJ, he was able to get away from the group of men, but a few moments later, he ran into two coaches who were training at a nearby martial arts studio, and they tackled him.

“My friend jumped out of the car, cut him off and that’s when we got on top of him and used our ju-jitsu to subdue him,” Dominic Galiana told WTVJ.

Authorities arrived shortly after and arrested Manfarrol. The 33-year-old, who is homeless, was booked into jail on grand theft and aggravated assault charges.
