The 2025 World Cup of Darts will have a historic first: Argentina will make its debut at the World Nations Team Championship. Thanks to the qualification of Jesus Salate and Victor Guillin, the South American country is taking a special step in the world of darts.
Although Argentina is best known for its passion for football, it is now also making its presence felt on the international darts stage. Salate and Guillin surprised friend and foe by winning the qualifying tournament for Central and South America. In Frankfurt, where the World Cup will be held from June 12 to 15, they may represent their country for the first time.
The PDC decided several years ago to further open the door to new regions by hosting additional qualifying tournaments. This also gives talent from non-traditional darts countries a chance to break through. As recently as 2023, the ticket went to Guyana, which entered familiar territory with Norman Madhoo and Sudesh Fitzgerald. This year, the way was open for a new country.
During the qualifying tournament, it quickly became apparent that history would be made. Salate and Guillin impressed by beating the defending champions from Guyana 6-2 in the semifinals. Despite the fact that their averages were around 85, they played solid and determined. In the final, they then dealt with Costa Rica, securing their World Cup ticket for good.
Other countries such as Jamaica, Panama, the Bahamas, Brazil, Colombia, Chile, Trinidad and Tobago and Barbados fell short of the coveted place. Only one country from Latin and South America is invited to the country tournament each year.

The duo of Jesus Salate and Victor Guillin recorded averages of 84.82, 85.17 and 80.19 in their last three games, securing their spot in Frankfurt.

Steve Kerr hints at ‘new formula’ Warriors will use without Steph Curry
The Golden State Warriors are in survival mode with Steph Curry still sidelined due to injury. Curry hurt his hamstring in Game 1 of the Warriors’ second-round series against the Minnesota Timberwolves. The injury, which prevented him from suiting up in Game 2, is likely to keep him out for at least Games 3 and 4. With the Warriors desperate to defend home court without their biggest star, head coach Steve Kerr pointed to two players he’s hoping to be part of a winning “formula” for Golden State. “There’s no Steph. It’s a completely different team,” Kerr told reporters, via The Athletic’s Anthony Slater. “Everything has to be about finding a new formula and [Jonathan Kuminga] is absolutely a part of that formula. … Trayce Jackson-Davis showed he can be effective against this team.” Kuminga has barely touched the floor in the 2025 postseason, when the Warriors have dealt with injuries to key players. The fourth-year pro got playing time in the first round against the Houston Rockets after Jimmy Butler went down with a pelvic injury. Kuminga was called upon once again with Curry out of the lineup for Thursday’s Game 2. He repaid Kerr’s trust by scoring a team-high 18 points on 8-of-11 shooting. Jackson-Davis also played sparingly during the Warriors-Rockets series. But he proved useful against the Timberwolves in Game 2, tallying 15 points and six rebounds across 19 minutes. Jackson-Davis and Kuminga combined to shoot 14-of-17 off Golden State’s bench in the contest.
Montreal Canadiens Place Future Hall Of Famer on the Trade Block
According to multiple reports, the Montreal Canadiens could trade a future Hall-of-Famer to a rebuilding organization this summer. The Habs have big plans for the offseason, and Kent Hughes is likely to consider trading a player who had a big impact on the team. After July 1st, there will be only one year left on the massive contract Carey Price signed with the Montreal Canadiens in 2017. The 37-year-old goaltender announced in 2022 that he would no longer be able to play. Since then, trade rumors involving his contract have been circulating. After all, his salary has created roadblocks for the Canadiens in recent years, and since there will only be one season left to pay him after July 1st, this scenario could finally become reality. A new report suggests that another rebuilding team could agree to take on Price's contract, given that the goalie will only receive $2 million in actual cash during the season: Kent Hughes has major plans for his team, and freeing up Price's contract from the salary cap could help him achieve his goals. Marco D'Amico also mentioned in a recent article that Price's contract could be an issue for the Canadiens this year due to the number of players signed to entry-level deals in Montreal. These types of contracts include performance bonuses, and trading Price's contract could allow Hughes to avoid annual financial penalties imposed by the NHL when teams go over the cap due to bonuses. He also revealed that an NHL source believes the $5.6 million increase in the salary floor could motivate some teams to take on Price's contract in a trade, as we saw with former captain and Hall of Famer Shea Weber: 'Price's contract is a big anchor for the Canadiens right now, and if they want to gain that full flexibility, they'll be wise to move it. "With the salary cap increasing in such a big way, some teams may want to cover their bases by acquiring a contract like that, just like Chicago just did with Shea Weber.' - Anonymous NHL Executive It wouldn't be surprising to see Kent Hughes make a move before the NHL Draft, considering the Habs have two first-round picks this year, but a trade involving Price is likely to go down after July 1st, if it were to happen.
Pirates Gold Glove-winning IF has brutal assessment of 'terrible' team
When the Pittsburgh Pirates acquired infielder Isiah Kiner-Falefa at the 2024 trade deadline, things were significantly different than they are right now. The team was on the fringes of playoff contention, was a buyer at the deadline for the first time in years and had a real sense of optimism due to the arrival of top pitching prospect Paul Skenes. A lot has changed in the short period of time since then, and none of it has been for the better. Kiner-Falefa offered a brutally honest assessment of that on Friday just before the team took on the Atlanta Braves. In reference to the numerous PR blunders they have had this season, as well as the late-season collapse and awful start this season that led to this week's firing of manager Derek Shelton, Kiner-Falefa admitted nothing has been as he hoped and that the whole situation has been "terrible." That is never what you want to hear from a veteran player who has spent less than one full season with your team. It is also hard to disagree with him. Just to recap everything that has gone wrong since his arrival: The Pirates fell apart after the trade deadline and not only missed the playoffs, but they won only 76 games and did not improve by a single game over their 2023 record despite the arrival of Skenes. They were completely inactive during the offseason and did not make a single meaningful addition to their roster, leading to a 12-26 start entering play on Friday. The team has had multiple PR missteps: replacing a Roberto Clemente tribute with an advertisement, removing bricks with fans' names on them and lying about what happened to them, a fan fell out of the stands during a game, games have been sparsely attended with fans repeatedly chanting to sell the team, and this week an usher and two fans got into a physical altercation that went viral. That is decades' worth of chaos unfolding within six weeks. On top of all of that, Shelton became the first scapegoat to fall on the sword for the failure of a season on the field. Even if he was not the most deserving of that fate. So, yeah, "terrible" sums it up quite nicely.
Report: Red Sox players unhappy with Rafael Devers’ comments
The Rafael Devers situation in Boston appears to be growing more toxic by the day. Christopher Smith of Mass Live appeared Friday on the “Foul Territory” podcast. During the episode, Smith reported that some veteran players on the Red Sox are not pleased with the three-time All-Star Dever’s recent comments about the team. “One reporter told me that one of [Devers’ teammates] said [for him to] ‘just stop talking,'” said Smith. “We’ve also at Mass Live learned that a couple players — veteran players, players who have been around the league a long time — were not happy with the situation, with his inflexibility, and also [with] the way that he brought it out publicly.” The report comes a day after Devers caused a stir by claiming that the Red Sox lied to him over the offseason. Devers alleged that the Red Sox, particularly executive Craig Breslow, told him that he would no longer be playing in the field from here (as the longtime third baseman Devers shifted over to designated hitter this season in order to accommodate new signing Alex Bregman). However, Red Sox first baseman Triston Casas suffered a season-ending knee injury earlier this month, and Breslow then supposedly approached Devers about the possibility of playing first base (a position that Devers has never played before in the bigs). As a result, Devers felt that he was lied to and went public this week to express his unhappiness. You can read the full comments that Devers made here. Now it appears that there are multiple Red Sox players who feel that Devers, 28, should have kept his complaints in-house. While Devers is the longest-tenured player on the Boston roster and is signed through 2033 as a part of a 10-year, $313.5 million extension he signed with the team before the 2023 campaign, his situation with the Red Sox is threatening to only get messier from here.
