Hoyer: Democrats Are Working to Bring Down the Overall Costs of Health Care

WASHINGTON, DC - House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today after President Biden's announcement that Medicare Part B premiums will decrease in 2023:

“I’m proud that President Biden and Democrats in Congress were able to strengthen Medicare and lower health care and prescription-drug costs for seniors in the Inflation Reduction Act we enacted this summer.  With the President’s announcement, we are continuing that momentum.  For the first time in over a decade, after years of increases, Medicare Part B premiums will decrease next year by over $60 per beneficiary annually.  This will bring down the out-of-pocket costs for health care for millions of seniors and those living with disabilities.  Doing so was made possible by Democrats’ commitment to lowering costs and putting people over politics.

“While Republicans want to keep seniors paying more for insulin and other life-sustaining prescription drugs and deny millions of Americans affordable accessible coverage they have enjoyed under the Affordable Care Act, Democrats are working to bring down the overall cost of health care.  I thank President Biden for highlighting this stark difference and for working with Democrats in Congress to achieve these victories for American seniors, for those with disabilities, and for the health and wellbeing of our country.”
